Walking in King's Sutton Parish

We are very fortunate in King's Sutton Parish in having some 23 miles (37Kms) of Footpaths and Bridleways or 'Rights of Way'. All are well-marked by small, circular white discs with a black arrow pointing the way.  Newer routes have coloured arrows, Yellow for Footpaths, Blue for Bridleways.  Note: All Rights of Way have an identification code, usually a letter followed by number.  These do not appear on sign posts or Ordinance Survey maps but may be obtained from the Parish Footpath Warden, David Hall.
Leaflets of the routes are available in the King's Sutton Post Office for 70p. For more accurate navigation and added interest, Ordinance Survey maps give greater detail. See the Landranger Series (No 151-pink cover) scale 1:50000 / 1" to 1.25 miles...... or even better the Explorer Series (orange cover) scale 1:25000 / 2.5" to 1 mile.  ( This map shows all field boundaries and even shows which side of a fence or wall the path is!!)
NB The Parish does not have any 'Freedom to Roam' areas, so walkers should keep to designated routes.

Suggested walks for lighter evenings:

1. Start at the White Horse in Mill Lane. 50yds on ( at Holland Rise) cross the field diagonally and continue over the 'Tops' to Charlton where you can stop for refreshment before returning. ( 1 hour each way ) N.B. It is possible to go one way by bus.
2. Start at the White Horse in Mill Lane and go straight on to Walton Grounds. Head south to Ayhno where refreshments are available before returning.

Healthy gentle walks of about 1 hour leave every Friday at 0945am from the Memorial Hall.

The paths are there for all to enjoy healthy exercise, fresh air and views of the countryside. Enjoy your walking.

NOTE: If you have any comments or complaints about paths in the parish, please contact: David Hall, the Parish Path Warden (816563), the Parish Council or the Rights of Way Office in Northampton ( tel 01604 237700)

Winter
by Nicholas Gordon

Winter howls like winds or wolves or weeping,
Inviting us to witness pain and death.
No truth can better penetrate the shell
That insulates our empathy so well,
Essence of the entropy of breath
Returning us to one another's keeping.
