2012 Celebrations

 During 2012 we will be celebrating the Queens Diamond Jubillee and also the return of the Olympic Games to the UK.  This page is dedicated to bringing you as much information about these events, the fundraising efforts and the fun times ahead.  It will work at its best if you can send information to advertise what you are doing so we can allow as many people as possible to share in these momentous events.       Email me at..... 2012@kingssutton.net

From a letter written by Frederick Kerby, of Charlton who was, born in King’s Sutton 3rd May 1889, written in the 1950's...
''The Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria (1900) was commemorated by a dinner for adults, tea for children, sports and general celebrations. This was provided for by public subscription.''

QUEEN’S DIAMOND JUBILEE

Today the 6th Feb 2012 is Accession Day marking 60 years since Princess Elizabeth became the Queen.  See full details and photos from .....here

I am sure that most of you are by now aware that in June the country will be celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Queens Coronation, and many communities will be providing parties or events to share in these celebrations. King's Sutton has formed a committee with representatives from many of the groups in the village and a whole weekend of events is planned. This will be a historic event and to mark the occasion will take a great deal of planning and expence.

A target of £5000 has been set and fundraising started last July. To date the fund stands at £2000, thanks to the support of many people and events that have been and still are being programmed by the committee.  Some of the events held so far include;
Treasure Hunt, Strawberry and Cream teas, an Elvis night, Cake Stall and Sing-a-long sessions at the coffee mornings on a Monday and Friday, Word search competitions (drawn monthly), Table Top sales in the Memorial Hall and Dances.

Between now and May the following Timetable is planned;
Feb 8th........... Making of bunting and quilting. 7.30 in the Memorial Hall. Any red, white or blue material you may have we would be glad of and anyone handy with needle and thread out there please feel free to join us.
Feb 22nd........ Cheese and Wine party. (Ladies only for reasons that will become clear later!)

Mar 25th........ Fun Run around the village. Sponsorship forms from Derek Townsend. Childrens Fancy Dress competition.
Apr 14th........ Auction. Viewing from 10-12am  Sale from 2pm. Donations of sellable lots will be received on 13th April from 5-9pm. Unwanted games, toys, furniture, ornaments, and anything that we can sell will be much appreciated.
May 7th.......... Its a Knock Out. ( for children) On the Rec. Details to follow.  Now is the time to start thinking of teams and a team name and maybe a bit of training would be agood idea!

In addition to the above a Race Night is being planned. These are great fun and offer a chance of winning a few £££.

If you would like any more details on any of the above or about the palnned entertainment for the Jubilee, or would like to sponsor the event in some way please contact Keith on 811934.

The aim of the fund raising is to enable us to host four days of celebration for the Queens Diamond Jubilee. This will be in the form of four differing musical experiences.

We are hoping that the Church will be holding a Classical Evening,   The Baptist Church will be holding a Country and Western Night,  There will be a Big Band Tea Dance in the Memorial Hall and a Pop, Rock and Roll Night at the Playing fields. This, along with the festivities to be held on the Rec on Saturday June 2nd will make sure that there is something for everybody to enjoy.

There will also be performances from the children of the village on the Saturday along with the Boys Brigade and other local bands.
